Today's Class

Today's class really inspired me to be a great teacher for the LBD students I will someday have in my classroom. Before, I always worried about what I could teach them. But today I learned that the more important question is, "What can I do to help them to learn?" If they have a behavorial problem, I know now that I can teach them how to interact with others. If they get angry, I can help them figure out other ways to deal with their frustrations than to fight or "act up" in class. Another thing I learned from today's class was something I always wondered about: why the "L" is attached to the label, "LBD." Just because a child has a behavior problem does not mean they cannot learn. Mrs. White made an excellent point when she said that some children may not be learning the material in class because they might act up so much in class that they get kicked out of the room and have to sit in I.S.S. or detention rather than in the classroom with the teacher who knows the material. It makes sense to me now! I cannot wait to help and teach my future students! :)

  1. I was in tears from the first video we watched Monday. Childhood is supposed to be a carefree time in life, but many children face emotional difficulties growing up. The one disorder that caught my eyes was PTSD. My husband has been diagnosed with PTSD from his experience in Iraq. This will be something he has for the rest of his life. I had never thought of a child having this emotional disorder.

  2. Yeah that is kind of sad to think that a CHILD can have PTSD. I do not think anyone should have to be put through situations that cause PTSD...especially a CHILD though! It really breaks my heart! I am sorry that your husband has been diagnosed with PTSD. Is he still in Iraq? When does he get to come home for good?

  4. I agree that class was very inspirational and helped a lot with the issues that I was worried about facing in class. I agree that is very difficult with children, I was in a car wreck last december and I might be the worst person to be in the car with because I think that every single car is going to hit me. They think I have a slight case of PTSD, I could not even imagine dealing with anything like this as a kid.

  5. I agree. I learned a lot in class today. It also made me look at things a little differently when she said "its what I can do to help them lean." That is something ill always remember.
