Dialect
I have this horrible habit of saying warsh instead of wash. I was doing some research and it said that the intruding "r" is typical for Eastern Kentucky dialect. I did not realize my dialect was so strong until I lived in N.C. and everybody I met was from all over the U.S. I was always teased for talkin' funny, even people from the South teased me. I'm not ashamed of my dialect, it is a part of who I am. It didn't change when I lived in another state. I guess you can say, I'm a true Kentucky girl.

I am also a true Kentucky girl! I am proud of my heritage and my accent. It's a real skill when you can turn three or four words into one, it saves so much time! People from other places usually seem to love and just want to sit down and talk to us.
ReplyDeleteThat's funny because people always ask me where I am from. I was born in Kansas and moved around a lot when I was younger (I lived in Texas and Michigan and then finally Louisville). I guess I have a combo of all these different dialects!
