Labor day
Is anyone else excited about Labor day weeken, I know I cant wait till Friday, I dont have any class so I am going straight to the lake. Just gonna sit on the house boat and realax. Like the rest of you homework is already getting the best of me. So im just gonna wakeboard, ski and relax. Hope the rest of you all have a good weekend.
Dinner
Tonight was the first night that my roommates and I were able to sit down and have a dinner with just the four of us. I made us pasta alfredo with garlic bread. It was so much fun. I have missed my roommates so much this summer. I am very glad that I roomed with them this year. Two of my roommates are social work majors so that is going to help me out when I attempt to double major in Special Education LBD and Social Work.
Today's Discussion...
I don't know about the rest of you but I really enjoyed today's class. I really feel that our group activities are very helpful and make the topics somewhat more understandable. (I say somewhat because I still haven't got it all down just yet.) LOL
What a day
You sure could tell today is Monday. If I have another day at work like I did today I don't know what I will do. Feeling rough didn't help either. I bet I do not go without one of my allergy medicines again, I'm having an allergy attack from you know where. I can't wait to have a three day weekend this coming weekend. Everyone say a little prayer for me that I feel better tomorrow and that my kids at school have a better day.
Second Week
It's already the second week of school! Can anyone believe it? Last week went by somewhat fast and somewhat slow. Is anyone else going home for Labor Day weekend? I am excited to go home because I get to go see the WEBN fireworks with my family. It has been a tradition for years with us. Anybody else going to see them?

It's Already Mondy
Hey Everyone!
I hope everybody had a good weekend! It seems that last week was so slow and the weekend went by so fast, I can't believe it is already Monday. I understand everyone's problems with blackboard because I could not get mine to work at all this weekend. Some of my classes are not even an option in Blackboard which can be frustrating because, I would like to print the syllabus out so I know what to expect and when things are due in class. However, even more frustrating has been trying to find parking on campus. I don't know if anyone else is having problems but I drove around forever trying to find a spot to park! Hopefully, over the next couple of weeks all of these issues will be resolved. I will see everyone is class tonight!

Computer Problems
Like BB problems isn't enough, my computer crashed over the weekend. So now I am posting all of my blogs in a hours time. If Mrs. White is reading this...I didn't forget, just couldn't do it.
Homework
I completely agree with being swamped with homework! Between the hours I am doing, the commute to school and having two school age children at home the homework is being done in the early a.m.
Hello
My name is Amanda Crabtree or just Mandie, I am a proud mother or two, and my major is in Special Education (DHH) & 1-5 Teach. I hope to enjoy this class this semester. I am hoping this shows up on the Blog because I have never did this. See ya.
Richmond
The one thing I have missed about Richmond is everyone's accents. Being from Northern Kentucky you don't hear that many. When my parent's were helping me move in to my apartment my dad had to go to Lowes to pick up some supplies. He came back and told me that he had the hardest time understanding what this guy was telling him. I just shook my head and laughed and couldn't believe how much I had missed this place. It's fun to go home after being here for a couple months because my friends back home say I come back with a slight twang.
Hey!
Hello everyone! My name is Jo Yery and I am a senior majoring in Elementary Ed./LBD. I am behind since I changed my major last year from Elementary Ed. with an emphasis in English to Special Education so I will not graduate until next year. I am from Cincinnati. I went to Winton Woods High School for those of you who are familiar with Cincinnati. I have a 22 year old brother who just graduated from the University of Cincinnati with an Electrical Engineering degree and a 15 year old sister who just began her freshman year of high school. I have been a member of Kappa Delta Tau (KDT: Eastern's only service sorority) since my first semester at Eastern. I love it! We do all kinds of community service around Richmond and neighboring cities. I was the Chaplain for four semesters, but I had to quit because I moved off campus (Chaplain is one of the offices that you have to live on the KDT floor in order to hold). I lived in Todd Hall my freshman year, McGregor my sophomore and junior year, and now I have my first apartment with my best friend. I feel so grown up! I am also involved in Campus Crusade for Christ and CSSC (Christian Students Serving Christ) at Big Hill Christian Church which just opened a brand new church on Goggins Lane (right next to the new shopping center). We meet at 6:30 on Wednesday nights. Dinner is free and the people are great! Everyone is welcome! I hope everyone has enjoyed their first week back at school!
Language and accent
Every nation has different English accent and this may be influenced by one's native language or the accent of a person(s) who teaches you English. Sometimes the accent can make communication difficult. I am glad that now am getting used to American accent though I still have problems here and there.

Intro
Hi! My name is Ashley Sarver and I am finally a sophomore here at EKU. I have to say finally because I took three semesters off school, which was a bad idea, but at least I'm back. As of now my major is Communication Disorders but I plan on switching to Special Education. I have lived in the Berea/Richmond area my whole life and graduated from Madison Southern High School. I love it here and don't have any desire to leave. I have been with my boyfriend, Steven, for a little over two years now and even though we drive each other cazy at times I love him to death! I'm very close to my parents and my friends. I guess that pretty much sums me up!
Introduction
Hi everyone! My name is Lauren and I am a junior this year. I am from Northern Kentucky, and moved down to Richmond about three years ago. I love EKU, and it is way better than going to NKU. That would be like going back to my high school. I graduated from Scott High School, which is NOT in Scott County. That is a common mistake! Both of my parents work at hospitals and work in the Cytology department. Basically, they play where's waldo with cancer cells. I worked at the hospital as well this summer. Needless to say I won't be going into the science field! I have one sister who ironically goes to Western Kentucky University. She is a sophmore this year. I used to dance when I was in high school and I miss it sooo much now that I am down here. I did everything from tap, ballet, and jazz to belly dancing and hip hop. I am glad that I chose to come to EKU because I have met so many nice people and have made a lot of friends.
Week 2
I hope that everyone has a great week and that they dont get over loaded with homework and other work. See you in class on Monday!
left out
So one of my best friends who graduated in May came back to visit us this weekend. Her along with 95% of my friends are either DHH ed, Speech pathology, or ASL (ITP) majors/minors. When my friend started conversing with one of our friends who is deaf, I just stood there trying so desperatly to figure out what was going on. Afterwards she had to translate it for me. I can only imagine how frustrating it would be to live that constantly. I did see just how beneficial it is to have that language though. I only know Spanish, but ASL you can use when its loud or you dont want others to hear your conversations. I almost regret not taking ASL.
Communication in Church
I know I have already posted four blogs for the month of August (2 blogs and 2 responses on other blogs) but I could not help but think about this in Church today. During prayer and worship (singing, dancing, and whatever else you like to do to praise God), the Church band was performing. Normally, everyone can hear the words the band is singing loud and clear. But for some unknown reason this morning, the microphones had been turned down and it was very hard to hear their voices because there were so many instruments being played. This situation just made me think of times when there is no receiver of the information trying to be communicated. Although there were lyrics posted on the power point so people could sing along, it made me think there still would be no communication for the people who are blind or maybe could not see the print. Or even someone who does not know the tune of the song. But thankfully, someone fixed the mics and we got to sing along! :)

Chapter 2 reading
Oaky....
either I'm really stupid or chapter 2 is a hard read. I've actually read it twice and I still can't grasp the phonology and morphology. Is anyone else struggling with this material?? :(
Mrs. White I may need some one on one assistance. LOL

I plan to graduate in 2011 and then go on to get my masters. I stay very busy with helping with the children in our church and school.

Nonverbals
"To understand people, we must be able to hear what they are NOT saying, what they will perhaps never be able to say."
The nonverbals have just as much meaning as the verbals. We have to be able to read people's actions and expressions, not only interpret their words.

Elevator
Last night I was in the elevator with two guys and another girl. They all lived on my building but none of them were looking or talking to me. One guy was texting someone, another was having a fight with a girl, the other was talking to the girl in the elevator. I found it fascinating how many levels of conversation were occurring at the time. I could tell each persons mood bye the sound on their voice and their facial expressions. However feeling left out I pull out my cell phone and started texting all the way up too the 9th floor.
The Weekend
I dont know about anyone else but I am super happy that it is the weekend and that my first week back at EKU is over. This week has taken a lot out of me its going to take me a while to get used to being back in school. I hope everyone had a great week and also has a great semester.
Hi everyone, I am Agnes Tsheko I am from Botswana. My nationality is Motswana and my language is Setswana I have been here since January 2008, (never visited home) . Botswana is not well known because of peace and stability that reigns there. However Botswana is one of the world's largest diamond producer (and they are not blood diamonds). I miss home so much and the day I graduate my luggage will be readily papacked because I will be fliying home as soon as I leave the AC to go and share with my nation a lot that I have learnt in U.S.A

PowerPoint Help
Stephanie,
When you click on print and the print box pops up look at the very bottom and there will be a place that will say "Print What" click on the down arrow and hightlite "Handouts." Straight across from that it will say "Slides per page" click on the down arrow again and highlite #3...this will give you a printed sheet of 3 slides on a page with blank lines on the side of each frame for note taking. I hope my directions make sense. Good luck.

Hey i was looking through the different PowerPoints on BB and I was wondering if anyone knows how to print them so they have the lines on the right side to make additional notes. If you could just let me know thanks! Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Hey everyone
Hey everyone, my name is Valerie Pike. I work in a Special Education classroom at Hogsett Elementary in Danville, KY. Working with special needs children is very challenging but also a blessing to me, I wouldn't have it any other way. My major is PK-5 regular ed/LBD. I work full time and go to school full time. I hope to graduate in 2011. This class looks to be very interesting but very busy. Hope everyone has a great weekend.
Hey Everyone!
My name is Stephanie Chell and I am from northern Kentucky. I am a elem. ed/special ed dual major. I have gone back and forth with my major and finally decided this is what I want to do. I knew that I wanted to work with children I just was not sure what age and in what kind of setting. I am a huge sports fan my favorite teams are the Cincinnati Bengals and Kentucky Wildcats. I am looking forward to this semester and think that I will really enjoy this class!

What a day!
This has been the strangest day!
For starters one of the teachers I work with was transferred to another school due to our numbers being low. That was pretty tramatic for her and sad for the rest of us that work with her so closely everyday. But the worst part of my day was when I dropped by my daughters school to pay her school fees and give her money for an after school dance, no one in the office could figure out where she was. They kept getting on the intercom and asking different teachers if they had her in their classroom. Fifteen minutes went by without a word on Kali and her where-a-bouts; I completely freaked out! Thank God someone had enough sense to figure out that she was on a different team and finally tracked her down. (Thank you Tammy!!!)
Needless to say that pretty much wiped me out for the day!! :-(

Class Activity
OK, Wednesday night after class I went to meet some friends of mine and we went at the Mexican restaurant in Mt. Vernon. While we were eating we were talking about our day and how our classes went and I was telling Niki about how we had to arrange ourselves in ABC order without taking. To make a long story short I teach a class at my church on Wednesday nights and some of the kids have a really hard time getting along with each other, so we used this activity in class to make them work together and communicate with each other. It didnt go as well as it did in class on Wednesday but it got all of them to talk and laugh together once we were finished. :)
Substitute Teaching
How many of you substitute in the schools on your days off? I was just curious to see if anyone else subs. I highly recommend doing it if you have time. I started substituting last semester and I love it. It is a great thing to do to make sure education is what you really want to do. You have a whole class of eager learners all to yourself. You don't have EKU professors watching everything you do. It is a learning experience you have by yourself. Even if it is just one time I guarantee you will learn so much.
Out late
It's about 1:47 am on Friday morning and being unable to sleep is the least of my problems at the moment. I started working on an out line for chapter two in our textbook (not this late at night) and I started to wonder if our textbook had a web site that we could go to -- to well get more information. I found that most of our chapters have web resources -- I encourge others to check them out. They were very helpful for me in chapter one they are located on page 12 in chapter two page 24 has some.
Say what?
This first week back to EKU was such a long and hectic week for me. I have definitely had my ups and downs! Even though SED 260 will be a challenge, I believe all of us can do it! I also believe it is going to be very interesting. Honestly, I was scared to death of taking this course. But after meeting Mrs. White, I know this class is going to be great! Just from Wednesday I took in a lot of interesting information. But anyways! I am so happy to be home around my loved ones for the weekend. My best friend and I went to El Azul Grande (a mexican restaurant in my hometown) to have dinner. Whenever I go there, I never understand what the people who work there are saying to me. It sort of always makes me feel awkward and I never make eye contact with them in fear of not being able to interpret their statements or questions. After Wednesday's class, this really made me think tonight while I was placing my order at the mexican restaurant. I decided to actually look at the man taking my order because I never realized it probably made them feel just as weird/uncomfortable I was feeling. After I placed my order, my food was ready in about 5-10 minutes. To further the complication of trying to understand one another, I told the waitor that my dish was not prepared the way I asked. I had told him I didn't want beans, but there was indeed beans on my plate. I said, "I'm sorry, but I did not order beans." He looked at me for a few seconds and said, "No cheese?" I had to say, "No beans," and point to the beans on my plate. So I guess sometimes in order to have proper communication, you have to use speech AND gestures! It really is amazing how often Wednesdays class has came in my mind just over the period of a day! :)

Trista Thacker
My name is Trista Thacker. I am originally from Pikeville, Kentucky, which is about as far east as you can go without crossing into West Virginia or Virginia. I am an only child but I do have 7 cousins which makes it seem like I'm one of eight kids. I have a 17 year-old cousin, Joshua, a 12 year-old, Leighton, a 11 year-old, Cara, a 10 year-old, Dakota, a 5 year-old, Serenity, and twin 3 year-olds, Emily Rose and Damien Kane. One of the things I dislike most about being here is that I am missing the youngest three growing up. They all started school this year and it was hard to miss that. I'm hoping that I will be able to go homw most weekends to see them all.

Hello folks.
I've been looking over the syllabus and I'm a little freaked out about the Language Sampling Project.
Has anyone ever done this type of project before?

Hi. My name is Jeannie Lakes and I'm majoring in Elementary Education with a Kindergarten emphasis. I have been a student at EKU for 5 yrs and it looks like I will be here another couple of yrs before I finally graduate. :(
I have been out of school for nearly 20 yrs so you can imagine how difficult being a college student has been for me. Although the work has been challenging, I think the hardest part has been fitting in with the younger crowd.
I've been married to the same person for 18 yrs and we have two daughters Shelby & Kali. Shelby will be 16 in Dec. and Kali is 13. With the exception of being a little sassy, they are both pretty good kids. I hope that by my example, Shelby and Kali will see how important it is to put their education before love, marriage, and children.

Groups and blog
I just wanted to say that I love that we have group discussions! It's so nice to not have a teacher just talk at us always. I wish more teachers would use this technique because I get so much more out of class. I also am really liking this blogging thing. I really thought at first I wouldnt, but it is interesting to see everyone elses blogs and write my own as well.
Hey Everyone
Hello, my name is Stephanie Watkins. I'm 24 years old and grew up and still live in Lexington, Ky. I'm a ele. ed and special ed LBD duel major.I'm very close to my family and am very lucky to have them living close by. I've been in school forever, due to the fact that I was a nursing major to begin with and realized part way through that was not my calling. About a year ago I switched to special education and have completly fallen in love. Best decision I've made!! I know this is what I want to do, I knew from the moment I stepped into SED 104! I love kids and have been babysitting since I was 13. I'm currently a nanny for 2 families. One of which I've been with for about 4 years, and the other just recently started with. I love to see children learn new things, especially when they have struggled to learn something and they then get it. I am a huge UK basketball and football fan. I love to be outside, I enjoy playing tennis and basketball, and I have a wonderful blacklab mix named bear who is like another member of the family and is just a little spoiled :) I'm looking forward to this class. I can see that Mrs. White has a passion for teaching, and I think this is going to be a great semester. I think we are going to be her new favorite class! :)

Hey, my name is Aaron Stephens and I am a DHH major. This is my 3rd year at EKU, I was originally in the Occupational Therapy program and decided that it was not for me. So I switched to DHH and Ive been very happy with the decision that Ive made. Im looking forward to this semester, and looking even more forward to next fall when I can graduate.
Lunch
Today I had lunch at Koto Japanese Bistro with my boyfriend. All of the workers were Japanese, so it was very interesting communicating with them. They knew how to speak good english, which was good. I had been to other Japanese restaurants before and it is always nice to communicate well with them. They are from Japan, but they have learned the english language to come over here and work.
Introduction
Hey everyone! My name is Sandy Schwitters. I am from Lexington, Kentucky and drive everyday to EKU which can a long drive sometimes. I have previously graduated from UK with a degree in psychology but have decided to return to school to get my masters in Communication Disorders. I am still in the undergrad stages and have a while to go but am looking foward to doing something I enjoy. If anyone who shares this major has any advice for me I would greatly appreciate it! I hope everyone has a good weekend, I know I am so ready for Friday!
Hayden
Our class discussion yesterday really got me thinking about times in my life where I have been in situations where I was not able to communicate effectively with people and how frustrating it can really be. Also it reminded me so much of my nephew Hayden, who is just 3 years old, soon to be 4, and has just started pre-school this year. Hayden has a small speech problem which makes some of his words hard to understand. People in my family that have been around him his whole life do not have a problem understanding him but I have seen where he has tried to talk to other people and them not be able to understand him and how frustrating it is for him. Also he gets very upset when his mother or father has to tell the person he is trying to talk to what he is actually saying because he does not understand why that person can’t understand him. Being so young Hayden does not understand that he has a speech problem yet and his feelings get hurt when people just ignore him because they can’t understand him. He is one of the reasons why I went into CDS, so that maybe one day I can help a child like Hayden.

A little about me =)
Hey everybody! My name is Kayla Peace and I am a Junior here at EKU. I am recently a transfer from the University of the Cumberlands where I played on a golf scholarship there for two years. My major is Deaf Education and it is truly my passion. Besides my family and friends, I love nothing more than to sign and work with deaf children and adults. I am from Williamsburg, Kentucky...which pretty much seems like the middle of nowhere, haha. For all of you who don't know where it's at, it's about 45 mintues south of here. =) I am highly involved in my home church, Calvary Missionary Baptist, where I lead a youth interpretive team there. I am so thankful for what God has done and is going to continue to do in my life! God, my family, and friends are the backbone of my life and I don't know what I would do if I didn't have them! I have worked at Whitley Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Tech for the past 4 years, and I still plan on working there during breaks and in the summer. I recently had an encounter with a deaf lady that came into the pharmacy and nobody could communicate with her, so they came to the back and got me. I went up to the counter and started asking her if I could help her, and the look of relief on her face when she seen I knew how to sign truly blessed me! God has put this passion in my life for a reason and I LOVE everything about it! I put in my Sorority recruitment fee, so I'm hoping I will get to meet a lot of new peopole =)! I hope everything is going well in all of your all's classes! See you all in class!

Comm/Lang/Speech
Today's lecture made me think about American Sign Language. The whole reason I became interested in it was because I would see people signing or have an interaction with someone who was deaf and not being able to fully understand them or communicate back was frustrating and I decided I wanted to learn how to do it. This also applies to the ever growing Hispanic population. I took Spanish for years and you would think that I could put a sentence together but I can't and I really wish I could because I come into contact with Spanish speaking people all the time. If I had the time I would try to take a class in that also so I could communicate better.
a little bit about me...
Hi! My name is Whitney Low and I am a sophomore here at EKU. My major is special education LBD and I LOVE it so far, but then again I am only a sophomore. I am from Corbin, Kentucky--home of the original KFC ;)--where I went to Corbin High. I am involved with Campus Crusade for Christ and God has truly used it to change my life this past year. I just paid recruitment fees yesterday for Greek Life, which really is not like me, but I am pretty excited. I think it will be a good change to get out of my little bubble and meet new people. My mom is amazing and I talk to her about mostly everything that goes on in my life, we have been through alot together and she has always been an amazing role model. I am excited to get to know all of you and hope your other classes are going good!
Hi Everyone!
Hi, my name is Ashley Johnson and I'm an elementary special education major. I'm from Hopkinsville, KY but have lived in Lexington for the past six years. I'm finally back in school after being out for four years. My husband has been going to school at UK for chemical engineering and just finished in May with his Bachelors degree. I chose teaching because of my deep love for children and the desire to see them succeed.

Communication
In class today we discussed events where you could not understand a person you were talking to and how they felt. I failed to tell my group that when my mother was in her last days she lost her voice completely. She was talking through a traeche for almost a year and her voice eventually gave out. When she needed something she would try to speak but I could not understand her which made her upset. She could not write because she was too sick and shakey. I remember her crying because all she wanted was for someone to understand her. I felt awful. She motioned to me however that she loved me which made me feel a liitle better. It is hard trying to guess what a person needs and wants especially when the person has no way of communicating at all.
My first day!
So this past tuesday I started my new job at a day care in winchester. Man was it an experience! I had to watch over some of the aftercare program kids, which were the age of 6 -9. When I first got there some of the kids would not listen and thought that they could just do whatever they wanted and it was really hard for me to make them listen and follow directions. But as the time went on it started getting better and then by the time their parents came to get them they were listening and behaving well. This job is def going to teach me some things.
This is me
Hi. My Name is Meredith. I am in my third year here at Eastern and I am studying to be a special education teacher. It has taken a lot of hard work to get to college because I have faced many obstacles along the way. The biggest obstacle for me has been the death of my mother when I was 16. There was something good that came out of her death though. It was meeting my friend Mary and her wonderful family. That was when I first learned about Autism and fell in love with children who had special needs. I believe the most important job you can have is doing what you love and for me that is teaching children with special needs.
A little about ME!!
Hey everyone, I'm Margee I am a Senior but probably won't graduate until God knows when! lol However, I am keeping my head up and doing the best I can! I am so far behind b/c I have switched my major 3 times. So currently my major is Elementary Education with an infisis on Special Education. Which I should have started out as b/c this is what I have wanted to do forever. Since middle school I have helped out with the FMLD classes as a peer tutor and helped them in Special Olympics. I have judged the Special Olympics Cheerleading Competition and participated in the Polar Bear Plunge! So this is something that I truly enjoy doing! Anyways, I am from winchester Ky, where I have an amazing supportive family, and a wonderful boyfriend who gets to graduate in December from EKU which is completly not fair! Oh well!!! We have a beagle together named Daisy that we adopted from Pet's Mart and she is the cutest thing ever. She has keep me on my toes thats for sure. Also, I am a Kappa Delta and truly love it and probably wouldn't be this far in school if I hadn't joined. They truly have been my back bone and have helped me through a lot of tough times!! Well I hope I haven't bored anyone and I can't wait to get to know everyone ion classes and expand my knowledge. B.c I know Mrs. White is going to make that happen.
Let me introduce myself
My name is Amelia Combs but I prefer to be called Millie. I graduated highschool in 2007 and went to a community college in my hometown for the first year of college. It sort of caused me to get behind in my credit hours, so therefore I am just a few credits shy of being a junior. It took me a long time to decide what to major in and to be honest, the career I chose to go for was actually at the bottom of my option list. I am majoring in Special Education (LBD). I never wanted to be a teacher until last semester. I don't really know what helped moved me in that direction, but I am here now and I am not going to change majors now! I just love helping others. Plus, my best friend, since five years old, has a sister who has Down Syndrome and I just love her to death! What we talked about today in class really hit home with me because my friend's sister does not talk very plain and sometimes does not understand the things you ask. I am not however saying that she does not understand a lot of things because she is very intelligent in my opinion! She even remembers how to get to my house from where she lives. I love her so much and I think it would be an excellent career choice for me to go into Special Education because I sort of have a little background to it and I really understand Cindy (the little girl I've been talking about.) But the most important thing in my life is God! I am an unashamed Christian and over the summer, my walk with the Lord has grown a sight! Other than the things I have already mentioned in this blog, feel free to ask me anything else you would like!

Hello

Hello everyone. My name is Emily. I am the goofy one who was standing in the wrong place during class Thursday. This will be my junior year at EKU. My degree is Elementary and Special Education LBD. I am 24 years old, but I look much younger. I have been married to my highschool sweetheart, Joshua, for five years. He was in the Marine Corps. for 4 years and now works at what is left of Northpoint Corrections. We have two dogs, Daisy (miniature daschund) and Tyler (lab/mut). I can't wait to graduate so we can start our family.
Hey Everyone!!
My name is Danele and I am 19 years old. I will be a senior next semester, though I will not graduate until the Fall of 2011. I am an Elementary/ LBD double major. This is my first time blogging and to be quite honest, I am not a fan of it. It just seems very awkward to me. I don't really know what to share. I am Hispanic, an only child (and its not all its cracked up to be), and I love children <3. Both of my parents are employed by the school systems so I have grown up in the schools and I can't see my life without children in it. They are my joy and my passion. I am very involved with the Baptist Campus Ministry and I currently hold the position of Service VP for Alpha Phi Omega (national co-ed service frat). I am rather excited about the new year and the challenges that are to come.

Hi! My name is Jessica Sims and I am technically a senior but will not graduate till spring 2011. This is only my second year at EKU, I started my college career at Uk. So I am a huge UK fan, but not one of those annoying ones. My major is Special Education LBD with emphasis in Elementary Education. I just recently switched to LBD so I am very interested in this course. I still live in Lexington so i commute to Richmond 4 days a week. I was born and raised in Lexington and I will probably never leave, I could not bare to be away from my mom. My family is the most important thing in my life along with my boyfriend of 4 years. When I am not at school I am at work at Harry's in Palomar, so if I ever seemed stressed it is because 35 hours of work and a full school load is getting to me.
The other day my roommate and I went to eat Mexican and a family with a young child around the age of 2 was sitting behind us. During the meal my roommate got a phone call and the small child stood up in his both and started to mock her with a fake phone. The child used actually words but his conversation was pretty much like Yoda talk. Which was very entertaining to my friend and I but very confusing at the same time. Especially when she was trying to talk to her mother.
Hi my name is Anna Burton. I get to graduate in the spring. I was in special Ed in elementary school. So this class is going to be special to me. I look forward to working with the students in this class and learning about different ways of helping students with disabilities. I have one sister who is a pain in my butt. My boyfriend and his best friend have a close relationship- make what you will of that statement ( I do).
Introduction
My name is Patricia Revel and I am a 4th year student here at EKU. My major is Elementary Education with an emphasis in Kindergarten. My passion is definitely for younger children so I plan on only teaching K-2nd grade. I am from Richmond, Kentucky and I have lived here my whole life in the same house. :) Well except for the dorms and I recently just got my first apartment with a friend from highschool. It's great! Bills are horrible, but I work a lot at RT's Bar and Grill, so come visit me! :) I am pretty sure I have the best friends and family a girl could ask for. I am very lucky! The boyfriend is pretty great too, who I have been with for almost 3 years. I am a Chi Omega here and have been since Fall 2006. Those girls have truly became my home here and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I am especially close to my pledge class and we will all become Alum of Chi O in May. I will still be stuck here at school though, I am about a year behind on hours. I am very excited for this course, it is actually an elective for me to see if I liked this path of education. I maybe thought about getting a minor in Special Education. I feel like a loser, but I am actually very excited about "Blogging!" :)

Hello Everyone!
My name is Amy Gruenwald. I am 21 years old and a senior Communication Studies major with a minor in American Sign Language. I will be graduating this May and I am VERY excited! I hope to possibly enter the Interpreter Training Program here at Eastern in Fall 2010. Unlike the majority of our class I am not an education major, but both my mother and sister are teachers so I can relate to that aspect of our course! I am very involved on campus and am an active member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority here at Eastern. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and doing anything fun! I have a 9 month old Shetland Sheep dog (Sheltie) named Brady who is the love of my life!! I am from Columbus, Ohio so I don't get to go home very often due to the drive. I am a big Buckeye's fan but I do like UK basketball.

A little about me....
Hello, My name is Ashley. This is my 2nd year at Eastern. I'm enjoying it very much. My major is Communication Disorders. I live in Lincoln Co. I commute every MWF up here. It's not fun at all. I might seem somewhat shy at first, but after getting to know you all that will change. Some interesting things about is, that about a week ago I got engaged. I'm excited about it. Also my freshman (2005/2006) year at Bluegrass Community and Technical College, I won a Mini Cooper. I'm very active in my Church. That's all I know for now... Have a great weekend!

Hey Hey, I'm Renee. I am a sophomore here at the wonderful EKU, and I am a DHH major with an emphasis in Elementary Ed. I am from Mason, OH (I live about 5 minutes from Kings Island, if you know where that is). Both my parents are teachers. My father teaches High School Social Studies (yes, it was the same High School that I attended). My Mother teaches Special Education in a neighboring district for grades Kindergarten through 4th grade. I think that is where I got the idea to become a teach, but I have always loved to work with kids, they melt my heart! I have 2 sisters, Christina(24) and Nicole(22). I am the youngest. I am a member of CRU here on campus and so if anyone wants to go with me sometime we would love to have you! I am also a member of the Honors Program, so if I seem really stressed at times that is probably why, but I love it. The classes challenge me in new ways all the time, plus I get free books, who doesn't love that! I am so excited to become a teacher, I just feel like this is where God is leading me and I feel like my heart is for children! That's basically it, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask, I am normally really open about my life!

Hello everyone! My name is Dana Greene and I am finally FINALLY a senior and should graduate in May. I switched majors from Special Ed LBD to Deaf/Hard of Hearing. I plan to go on and get my Master's in special education LBD. I have a 3 almost 4 year old daughter at home and I commute back and forth from Lexington. I have been a paraeducator in the school system in Fayette County for a few years. I used to work full time in a special ed classroom which led me to wanting to teach special ed. I worked at a Therapeutic Recreation camp for children with needs and it was a great learning experience. Mrs. White I think you're pretty damn funny and this class should be interesting!

Hello all! My name is Stephanie Dobbins and I am in my junior year at EKU. I am pursuing a degree in Education.Specifically, special ed emphasizing Learning and Behavior Disabilities. However, I am not a traditional student. I work full time in the Fayette County School System in Lexington. I am a para-educator at an elementary school and work with 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade students. I am very lucky in that my position in the school is in a classroom that I am able to get a lot of experience that will help me both with classes at EKU as well as my future teaching career. Previously, I was a preschool teacher for 5 years and an Assistant Director at a preschool for 3 years. Needless to say, I have a lot of experience in Education, but not that much needed certificate to further my career.
One last interesting thing about me is that on top of taking a full course load at EKU, working a full time job, and taking care of my family--transporting the little one to dance, swimming, etc., my parents and I own 2 dollar stores (Dollar Zone) in both Lexington and Frankfort and will be opening our 3rd location in Nicholasville in January!!! We are very excited about the new venture and feel very lucky as well. I am also a consultant for Thirty-One Gifts. Its a wonderful christian based company created by women that sells purses, bags, stationary, etc for women, children, and most recently teen girls. Needless to say, I am very busy in my life, but am very happy and lucky to have the things and support from family that I do have. I wish the best of luck to all during this semester in both this class and all your others.

Hello! My name is Leslie Potts. I'am now a junior at EKU. I'am a dual LBD elementary ed. (P-5)/special ed (K-12) major, and I love it! I'am from a typical small town called Danville which is a good 45 minutes away from here, so you know I love making that drive everyday! I work at a day care in Danville called A Children's Place, I work with the school age children (7-10), and participate in the summer camp program we have there during the summer, which is lots of fun. I love all children and their free spirits. In High School I worked with the Special Education classroom during a peer tutoring program, it was a great experience and thats when I decided what I wanted to attain a degree in. I'am excited for this class to begin, and to learn more about Special Education.
