Hi. My name is Jeannie Lakes and I'm majoring in Elementary Education with a Kindergarten emphasis. I have been a student at EKU for 5 yrs and it looks like I will be here another couple of yrs before I finally graduate. :(
I have been out of school for nearly 20 yrs so you can imagine how difficult being a college student has been for me. Although the work has been challenging, I think the hardest part has been fitting in with the younger crowd.
I've been married to the same person for 18 yrs and we have two daughters Shelby & Kali. Shelby will be 16 in Dec. and Kali is 13. With the exception of being a little sassy, they are both pretty good kids. I hope that by my example, Shelby and Kali will see how important it is to put their education before love, marriage, and children.

Jeannie,
ReplyDeleteMy best friend back home is 30 and she has decided to go back to school as well! I wish you the best of luck and remember to always keep pressing foward and never give up! I give you major props for going back to school!! =) Good luck!
"Non-traditional students" set so many wonderful examples and contribute a wealth of experiences to the college classroom. The diversity of personalities and life experiences in the classroom make the learning opportunities greater for everyone.

I believe you will be just fine "fitting in" with the "younger crowd." I am 20 years old and I don't even enjoy college. I don't want to be there a lot of the time. I think just about everyone going to school has the same common goal (to graduate and better their life.) As for graduating in 4 years...I don't think many people do that either! So don't feel left out there! I am just now deciding on my major and it is going to take me longer than I expected to graduate, but I know I am going into the right career field. I love helping others!
ReplyDeleteShelby and Kali are lucky to have a great parent like you! It sounds like you really care about your children. And from what my education teachers have been saying, teachers should care more about their students than their paycheck! You seem to me like you have a big heart and I have confidence in you that you will graduate soon enough! :) Try not to stress out! Everything will be fine!
