Hello folks. I've been looking over the syllabus and I'm a little freaked out about the Language Sampling Project. Has anyone ever done this type of project before?
Hey Jeannie! I took CDS 380 last semester and we had to do a language analysis project which seems similar to this project. I am not going to lie it did take a while to get everything done, but we didn't have time to work it on class. I think the worst part was transcribing everything that was said. Hopefully, if it is something similar to what I already did I can offer you some help! Hope you have a good weekend!
Sandy's right! I am sure it will be very similar in many aspects. You may just be analyzing the sample for different aspects. Making sure that you capture the child's NATURAL language so that you have a quality sample to analyze is most important. The time element is certainly transcribing it. Making sure you allow time to do this so you can work on it in class when we are discussing various elements will be critical. "Working on the work" to make a personal connection to what you have done increases your own learning and ability to meaningfully retain the material.
I will provide as many opportunities for you to do this as possible. The key for students is planning and effort!
