This is me
Hi. My Name is Meredith. I am in my third year here at Eastern and I am studying to be a special education teacher. It has taken a lot of hard work to get to college because I have faced many obstacles along the way. The biggest obstacle for me has been the death of my mother when I was 16. There was something good that came out of her death though. It was meeting my friend Mary and her wonderful family. That was when I first learned about Autism and fell in love with children who had special needs. I believe the most important job you can have is doing what you love and for me that is teaching children with special needs.

I am sorry for your loss, Meredith. As you have noted there certainly can be blessings that come out of our deepest pain if we will simply CHOOSE to look for them instead of focusing on the despair. I am sure your experiences will lead you to be a tremendous help for others who experience similar losses as well.
ReplyDeleteYes sorry about your loss. I couldn't imagine losing my mom. On the other hand you were talking about Autism. When I worked full time as an assistant in a special ed classroom, there was a little boy in there who was autistic and I learned so much about the disorder. Tying this into the lecture today about communication, most children/people with autism have a hard time communicating verbally. We would communicate with the little boy by using a smiley face or a sad face on a piece of paper. If we liked his behavior he got the smiley face and if not he got the sad face and you could tell he understood because he would shake his head when we gave him a sad face (which was very rare) But my point being that there are lots of ways to communicate without speech or language.
