Our vs Are

I have recently realized that when I speak I cannot say "our." It almost always comes out "are." I did not grow up in Kentucky and I like to believe I still have my neutral accent, though I a feel as if my grammar is on a downhill slide. Regional language difference.

  1. Don't feel bad...there are a lot of words I still have trouble saying. The hardest words for me to say is anything with the world "oil" in it, it just comes out sounding like an odd sound. I'm thinking I got this from my mom who is actually from the north originally, so I don't think this one can be blamed on my Kentucky raising.

  2. I work with another teacher and I always make fun of him for this reason. He too has an accent--I think he is from eastern Kentucky somewhere, but occasionally he will be teaching and something will come out of his mouth with that special added twang and we just look to each other and laugh.
