Things to ponder

I have had a lot of trouble trying to decide what to do as far as a career goes. I finally decided that I want to be a Special Ed. LBD teacher (as I have mentioned in a previous blog). I went to do some observation hours last Friday for my EDF 103 class. One of the classrooms I got to observe was actually third grade and had LBD students in there. I really liked the size of the classroom (only two students). They were very sweet children!
But after being in SED 260, I have been thinking about going into Communication Disorders instead. I never really was aware that so many children cannot speak correctly or clearly because of so many things (such as the phisiology we learned about today).
I find it very interesting that so many things can contribute to speech problems.
I even got to thinking that some children may not be able to speak clearly not because they have difficulty in learning language/words (that is what I thought before this class) but because of several reasons.
Learning about voicing and not voicing certain sounds in speech makes me think about my friend's little sister who I have mentioned in other blogs. But if you haven't read those, her name is Cindy and she has Down Syndrome.
But anyways, I have always wondered why she says things certain ways. And I guess this also goes back to her not knowing the certain morphemes that change the meaning of some words.
For example, when she says "hungry," it sounds like she is saying, "hungrin." I haven always wondered why she says some things different. Is it because she does not understand the different parts/rules of speech? Or is it because she has a different disability?
