reality check
last friday i got a HUGE reality check. my dad got really sick, and was rushed to the hospital, once we found out his diagnosis of meningitis it was deja vu for my family all over again. as everyone knows meningitis is very serious and can be fatal. i had this twice when i was little and was able to pull through. if it is not treated fast enough it can kill you. the doctors told him that if he had not received help within two hours of when he did he prolly would not have made it. this opened my eyes so much. my dad is only 40 years old. being away at school made this so much harder and with me having had meningitis before they would not allow me to see him until 2 days later. i wasnt told he was in the hospital for a few hours since i was here at school and they did not want me rushing home. it just makes me think, i couldve easily gotten the call he was gone instead that hes in the hospital. this made me realize to appreciate what you have, dont take it for granted. keep the ones you love close. i see the blogs on here of people losing loved ones, and going through hard family situations, thankfully my situation ended on a happier note. but for those whose did not or are still dealing with it, i will continue to think about you. especially with the holidays coming near i will cherish my time with them even more and not take it for granted.

I couldn't agree more. My dad has alzheimers and I try to cherish every moment with him. The thought of him not remembering all of us one day drives me crazy. I'm trying to finish school while he still remembers because it was such a big deal to him when I decided to go back. He went around telling everyone I was going to college. I'm a huge daddy's girl if you can't tell. My mom has to put up with a lot and it is getting harder and harder on her. She cries a lot when she tells us kids about the things he is forgetting or getting confused about. It's sad. Glad your dad is ok Bryna. I couldn't imagine almost loosing him at such a young age; that is my age. Hope you have an awesome Thanksgiving.
