Epilepsy

Today we discussed epilepsy and it made me think of my cousin Zane who has it. He has been on so many different medications because none of them seem to work. One time over the summer he just slept and when he was awake just sat in his stroller drooling on himself. I felt so bad for him. He is 4 right now and I hope he finds a medicine that works for him. I have seen him have a seizure and he had a lollipop in his mouth while he was seizing. I was so afraid he was going to choke. It makes me wonder how he got epilepsy.

  1. The first time I ever saw a seizure was in eighth grade, and coming to find out the boy has epilepsy. They were playing with a laser light and flashing it on and off and it caused him to have a seizure. It was the scariest thing I have ever seen, but I remember my teacher handling the situation very well and she stayed very calm.

  2. Can you have a seizure for other reasons besides of having epilepsy? Because the CRAZIEST thing ever happened to my aunt. Many people probably will not believe this if they read it, but my aunt was up late on the computer one night. Her husband was already laying down. Well, she was playing a game online with some people she had met online. She even chatted to some of those people through email. Anyways! They were playing the game when she started to have a seizure. She did not know what to do and started typing random letters on the chat part of the game. Most of the people in that chat room thought she was just goofing off. But someone noticed it looked like she was trying to type out "help" because it looked something like, "hhjgggeeeellpppp." So some woman (who lived all the way in Canada) found out where my aunt lived and got ahold of 911 all the way in my hometown in Kentucky. I thought this was just so amazing! Well, the scanner is always on at their house so my uncle heard that an ambulence was being sent to his address. He got out of bed and found my aunt who was talking on the phone with someone else who had got her phone number online and called to check on her and make sure everything was going to be ok. My aunt is alive today because of people she had never even met before on the internet! Believe it or not. lol

  3. I worked at this therapeutic recreational camp one summer for children with needs and one of mine had seizures but they were subtle. You wouldn't really know unless you knew what to look for but I remember feeling really helpless and worried. There wasn't much we could do but make sure he had his medicine and wait it out.
