Hannah hears

Friday my daughter received her first hearing aid and it was the cutest, funniest, most memorable thing I have ever experienced. Keep in mind that she is profoundly deaf in one ear and moderate-severe in the other therefore has heard very few sound in her ten years of life. She is sitting in her chair at the Doc.s office and they put the hearing aid on her and when the thing finally turns on, her eyes got as big as nickels and she just looked at me. Then she makes a noise and you could just see the amazement in her face. Of course she then proceeds to go throughout the doctor’s office banging and clanging everything, while she is jumping, stomping, and clapping.

However, because she couldn’t hear before she believes no one else could either so I have had to listen to all kinds of things so far (leaves, birds, the fact that she makes noise when she goes to the bathroom, and so on...). I never realized how much I take for granted and how many noises I tune out until now. But watching her experience the hearing world for the first time has brought tears of joy to my eyes multiple times.

  3. Wow, that really is a beautiful story! I am going to guess that your daughter will want to keep the hearing aids. I can imagine that they open up a whole new world for her. That is amazing!
