yeah, i was kinda confused, this test was by far the hardest one we've had..
I agree, it was confusing, and I think that it was one of the hardest if not the hardest thus far...
The question states, "Brian who is autistic often demonstrates echolalia..."As a student I would then go to the chapter dealing with autism. I would locate the section on echolalia. The next part of the question, "Choose one of the communicative intents..."At the top of page 167 the heading of the chart is, "Seven Communicative Functions of Echolalia."The question, "Choose one of the communicative intents he could possibly be demonstrating with his answer and explain why it is a possibility."The chart lists:1. Turn taking2. Declarative3. Yes answer4. Request5. Nonfocused6. Rehearsal7. Self-regulatoryGoing back to Brian's echolalia response, "read about volcanoes or about animals."It may be he simply knows he is to speak after someone speaks to him and is demonstrating turn-taking.It may be that he is "declaring" or making a statement that he wants to read. In this instance this would go along with a yes answer to the teacher. He has not demonstrated WHICH topic he wants so it would not appear he is making a request. The final three choices are not likely if he is not continually repeating the line.
